How to Use The Alnwick Rose:

• Planting:

1. Choose a sunny location in your garden with well-drained soil.

2. Dig a hole twice as wide and deep as the container the rose comes in.

3. Remove the rose from the container and gently loosen the roots.

4. Place the rose in the hole, making sure the bud union (the swollen area on the stem) is level with or slightly above the soil surface.

5. Backfill the hole with soil, firming it gently around the roots.

• Watering and Fertilizing:

1. Water the rose deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

2. Fertilize the rose regularly during the growing season with a balanced rose fertilizer.

3. Mulch around the base of the rose with organic material to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

• Pruning:

1. Prune The Alnwick Rose in early spring before new growth begins.

2. Remove any dead, diseased, or damaged wood, as well as any crossing branches.

3. Shape the rose by pruning back to an outward-facing bud, about a 1/4 inch above the bud.

4. Maintain an open center by removing any branches that grow towards the center of the plant.

• Deadheading:

1. Remove spent flowers by cutting the stem just above a healthy set of leaves or a leaf bud.

2. Deadheading promotes continuous blooming throughout the season.

• Winter Care:

1. After the first hard frost, apply a layer of mulch around the base of the rose to protect it from freezing temperatures.

2. In colder climates, consider covering the rose with a rose cone or burlap for added protection.

3. Remove the mulch and any winter protection in early spring once the danger of frost has passed.
